Mission Log #5 Operation: Float like a Butterfly
In the Amish town of Paradise, a
peaceful and picturesque scene, one
could look at the smiling children and
singing people and would never guess
that this was the face of a town in
crisis. For beneath the outward happi-
ness, Paradise was facing a very serious
problem. That problem was death. Suicide
to be precise. Suicide in a community
that in it's two hundred years of existence
had never had one of it's members take
their own life. And now two such incidents
have occured in the space of a week.
Dr. Ejiah Good, the town's physician
decided that his people must be under
some kind of mental influence, and
seeing as how his town did not have a
history of mental illness, there was only
one such disease that they could be
inflicted with, and even though the
symptoms usually were that of mass
suicide, not individual. It could only
be, CRS. Companion Reaction Syndrome.
Seeking help, Dr. Good went to see the
American Companion, Da'an. Da'an sent Head
of Interspecies Relations and Security,
Commander William Boone, to invesitigate.
During the course of the investigation it
was discovered the the abnormal behavior
was being caused by what seems to be a
probe, not CRS as originally thought.

The probe, dubbed "Metal scarecrow" by
it's discoverers, a group of school children,
copied an element in nature, in this case
a Monarch butterfly, and replicated it,
turning it into a remote probe guided by
the main probe. Their purpose, as surmised
by Commander Boone, was to seek out the highest
organic energy level being and study it.
It would then create a puncture wound on
on the forearm and entered through it,
traveling through the body until it was in
control of motor functions, and then forcing
the subject to push it's own body to extremes,
eventually resulting in death. It would then
exit through the mouth and return to the main
probe to download it's findings. Unfortunately
two more such incidents occured before Commander
Boone and Capt. Lili Marquette were able to
subdue it. However only one of these "experiments",
death by freezing was fatal. The other victim,
Sara Good, Dr. Good's wife recovered from her
ingestion of household cleaner. A resistance
contamite team was able to pick up the "scarecrow"
and transport it to a Resistance science facility.
Boone and Marquette reported to thier Campanion
superiors that the town had indeed suffered a latent
outbreak of CRS, and that the outbreak had been
contained.
It is still unknown of what is the
"scarecrow's" true purpose. Is it a latent
research probe sent from the Taelons that
was overlooked after their arrival? Or is
it studying our weaknesses to explote in case
of war? For now the Scarecrow keeps it's secrets,
but the Resistance is confident that someday
they will be uncovered.

Knight's Log
Here's the thing I don't understand, Taelon technology is organic.
They grow the their buildings and shuttles like we grow corn. So if this is of
Taelon origin then why is it made of metal. And the design, it's all jagged and
edged, where every other Taelon artifact I have seen is smooth and rounded.
What I am trying to say is, this does not seem to be Taelon to me. But if
it isn't of Taelon origin then where di it come from? Who sent it? And why?
These are the questions we need to answer before it's too late.
